Tim Spann - Basketball League Commisioner

The first two weeks of the league has ended, and I finally got the opportunity too see all the teams in action. And in the five years that I have coordinated the league, this is probably the deepest and competitive league to watch in a long time; which every team is good and have some good talent.
There's only one undefeated team so far, and their one team that over came big deficient in second half (twice) in the game to win.
On 11/17 (Mon), The defending champion, The Defenders (formally, O4P) was upset by TCIO, 65 to 60. TCIO was led by a new comer to the league, Kyle with 27 points. This was a revenge game for TCIO, because O4P beat them in the last league. And with this win, TCIO can have some bragging rights for a minute, because both team knows each other professionally and has played each other in other leagues (lawyer league). I bet there were some interesting courtroom conversation that week. It was a good game.
The best come back of the week was ACN; overcoming a 15 point deficit in the second half to defeat the NS Players 64 to 61. When it looked as if the NS players was going to cruise to a easy victory, ACN kept their composer, played good defense and chipped away at NS Players lead which eventually led to a win. ACN was led by new comer, Emillo, with 23 points, he reminds me of a young Charles Barley, and Dedrick, who scored 11 points, but half of those points came at a crucial time of the game with some exciting and athletic shots. NS players was led by Darrell, with 18 points, and Jeff with 14 points. Hey, NS players, when you have someone down, you got to finish them off.
11/18 (Tue), The two new teams squared off: Adiyats and Reminants.
I can remember Chris from Reminants stating, "we have a good team...and we will not be beat..." He was right about one thing, they do have a good team, but he was wrong about the other; they loss to another good team, Adiyats, 62 to 55. Adiyats, which means, "those that runs" did what their name implys; they ran, and ran well. They have good shooters, they play well together, and they play good communication defense. They are fun to watch, but at times, their competitive spirit flairs up a little; watch the temper guys. Adiyats are the only undefeated team in the league (they also won on Sunday (11/23). Adiyats was led by Jamal with 17 points and Reminats was led by KG with 18 pts. Both teams should do well in the league.
Their was one other unbeaten team, Enterprise (they loss to the Adiyats on Sunday, 11/23) who beat the Hustlers, 70 to 61. Enterprise was led by Marcus with 16 points, but they had at least 4 other players that was in double figures. Their captain, Jessie, put together a well balanced team. The Hustlers, the Fall 2006 champions, was led by a new comer, Marcus, with 16 points. They have a good team; good shooters, competitive "personalities", but at times, lack concentration in playing defense, especially toward the latter parts of the game.
And lastly, the best game of the week was G-fellas (Good Fellas) against the Rock Boys. G-fellas came out on top 96 to 94. It was a hard fought and well played game. G-fellas was led by Blake, with 37 points and Mano with 24 points. Rock Boys was led by Tee, the league Co-MVP, with 36 points and Bart with 26 points. G-fellas are coming together as a team; they have good shooters; guys who can take it the basket, and a couple of guys who can jump a little. But at times, they can lack defense concentration.
The Rock Boy, the runners up from the last league, are 0 and 2, but according to their captain, Adrian, all of their players are not there. And he's right, they are missing a couple of their good players. And with the addition of Kenny, watch out; I wouldn't sleep on them.
It has been a nice two week. It's really enjoyable to see the quality of basketball that's being played. Please keep it up. If you or anyone have any suggestions to make things better, let me know. Thanks again.

Tim Spann - League Commisioner
The Athletic Club NE 2008/2009 Winter Basketball League has started. The league will have 13 very good and competitive teams; and four of those teams are new to the league: Adiyats, Laurel Heights, Max-Out, and Remnants (they are scheduled to play their first game on Sunday, November 16).
Adiyats are a young, athletic, and scrappy team; you can tell that they have played together for a while; they actually run plays. It's refreshing to see that, especially in a Rec. League.
Laurel Heights are a fast and athletic team. They have a young point guard (Lavon) that's quick, a good ball-handler, and can shoot the "three". He can play--watch him, it should be exciting to see him play.
Max-Out is a big and experienced team that have some players that's going to surprise a lot of teams. They are led by their captain, Bo, who is well known and one of the best player in the Asian Community and was the Co-MVP of the Spring/Summer League. Don't let his size fool you (he reminds me of a Tayshaun Prince), he's quick, strong, and he can shoot.
Remnants, haven't played yet, but I have received several phone calls from their captain, Chris. He assured me that they have a good team and they will not be "beat". We will see.
All the teams that has played are good. Even though some of the scores that's listed below may appeared to be a little lopped-sided, but you know how the first week is; teams trying to get to know each other and get adjusted to the league. But I expect things to change.
The other remaining teams: The Defenders, (formally O4P, the spring/summer champions), ACN, The Hustlers, The Teddy Bears, TCIO, North side Players, FOG (they're changing their name to "GFellas") and Enterprise, all look good.
I'm looking forward to seeing some good basketball.
